8.5 Hours and $30K left! Livestream still going and two new (rough) PC builds
about 8 years ago – Thu, Mar 10, 2016 at 10:58:42 PM

Thank you everyone!!!  We've had a huge final day, but it's not over yet!

We are STILL LIVESTREAMING ON TWITCH!  We've been going for 15 hours and have had the best full day of the entire campaign!  We now have 8.5 hours left and just $30K to go.  We're wide-awake even though it's 12 Midnight locally, and I'm not sure we'd be able to fall asleep even if we wanted to.

In the process of doing our livestream, we've made 2 new builds for the game.  Be warned that these are pretty rough and not quite as ready for release as the previous builds, but we wanted to make them available to everyone who isn't able to tune into the stream:

More Difficult #1 (more damage for all projectiles, Blades is more aggressive):

More Difficult #2 (new very rough Challenge Mode level)

We can't thank everyone enough for all the support throughout this finale.  It's been a suspenseful campaign the whole way throughout, and we know you are just as on the edge of your seats as we are.  Let's pull together for one last late-night push and make Overload happen!

24 Hour Livestream! Only 25% Left To Go!
about 8 years ago – Thu, Mar 10, 2016 at 10:29:10 PM

Overload's Kickstarter campaign is 24 HOURS away from being done!  We don't know how it's going to end, but it's been an exciting journey.  This past week has seen our backers and pledges skyrocketing, with yesterday being our 2nd best day (after the launch day)!  We'll need this final 24 hours to be the best of all if we're going to reach our goal, and we believe it will happen.  You guys have been absolutely awesome in your support, and we really want to thank everyone for their enthusiasm for Overload!

Though we've got 25% left to go, it's not unusual to get a huge last day.  We'll be spending every last shred of dignity we have to spread the word to press/etc. one last time.

24-HOUR LIVESTREAM

We're really doing it!  The Twitch livestream of the entire final day will be right here.  Some of the excitement you'll see:

  • Giveaways of signed merchandise (boxes/magazines of D1/D2/FreeSpace/etc).
  • Lots of Descent 1/2/3 team alumni from Volition stop by!
  • Matt Toschlog and Dan Wentz join us in person (Matt works out of Ann Arbor, Dan out of the Chicago area)!
  • We'll take some Skype calls from viewers to discuss Overload, our past games, and whatever else comes to mind.
  • See the unveiling of Overload's Visual History, a behind-the-scenes look at how the game came to be, and almost came apart.
  • We'll attempt to play the VR build with the Oculus Rift live on stream.
  • We're going to play lots of games, including Overload, D1/D2, Sublevel Zero, D:U, Hearthstone (sure why not!), and some Radiangames' titles like Inferno 2
  • We'll re-balance many aspects of the game based on feedback from players (for fun, not final balance)
  • Watch Chris sketch some new robot designs!
  • Watch Luke create an entirely new level for Challenge Mode!
  • We'll put up a new build with the balance changes (and optional cockpit)!

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

We keep finding more and more awesome highlights of people playing Overload.  Here are some of our favorites from yesterday:

VR Support, with Video and Playable Build!
about 8 years ago – Wed, Mar 09, 2016 at 09:53:59 PM

We're coming down to the end of the Kickstarter campaign, and there's ONE more thing we want to show: VR in Overload!

We've had rough VR support for a few months in Overload. It was not difficult to add, and the game looked great in 3D. But anyone who played would get a bit motion sick, particularly if they stopped looking straight ahead. In the past few days, we were able to spend a little time working on a rough cockpit and crammed it into the Playable Teaser, and the difference is dramatic! Suddenly, we can play the game without motion sickness, and feel more connected to the world of Overload.

Combined with the overwhelming and enthusiastic reception of the Playable Teaser, we now are fully committed to making a true VR version of the game. Cockpit-based games naturally work great for VR, and once we put the cockpit in Overload, it became obvious why. It will be a lot of work to rework the UI and get all the details right, but the game is already so good in VR that we'd be crazy not to do it.

And rather than just talk about it being great in VR, we're making a new VR-only build of the game available. This is a PC-only 64-bit version, and having high-end hardware is highly recommended. The usual caveats of this being a Pre-Alpha build apply, but we hope the VR enthusiasts out there will enjoy it:

For those of you without VR, we recorded Luke playing through Challenge Mode (Hard) to give you a taste of what it's like. Here are the highlights:

Playable Teaser Highlights

Lots of people have been playing and enjoying the Playable Teaser build. Rather than watch us play through, it's sometimes better to watch some new players try it and talk about their experience.

Last 48 Hours!

The 48-Hour reminders just went out, and we're starting to see an even bigger surge of backers, with 57 new backers in the last hour! We'll need to keep that surge going to finish strong, and we'll be doing one last push with the VR build, and tomorrow is the...

24-Hour Livestream!

That's right, from 9:21AM CST Thursday morning until 9:21AM Friday (the end of the KS campaign), we'll be streaming the ENTIRE 24 HOURS! We'll be working on the game, playing lots of games (Overload of course, lots of 6-DOFs, our past games, and lots more), talking about past histories, and unveiling a huge visual history of Overload's development.

We'll also be doing another Reddit AMA, though not a scheduled one this time. Come join us on our Twitch channel or the AMA and chat and ask away. It'll be a huge party (well, huge for a bunch of introverts who love working on games), and we're going to have a good time regardless of what happens with the Kickstarter.

The 60 Hour Mark Approaches
about 8 years ago – Tue, Mar 08, 2016 at 10:15:47 PM

The final 2 days are getting closer!  We've had a huge surge of backers over the last few days, and it's going to be an exciting finish!  We'll have one more awesome thing to show tomorrow, and then the final day we'll be doing a 24-hour livestream.

New Playable Build With Improved Joystick Support

We've switched the joystick system for the latest playable build.  This means *many* more joysticks will be recognized correctly, *multiple* joysticks can be used at the same time, and axes/buttons that weren't mapping properly before now will.  The only downside (if you download this build) is you'll have to remap both the joystick and keyboard/mouse settings.  Let us know whether this build fixes your joystick issues or not.

In addition to the input system change, we've also made a few other tweaks:

  • Challenge mode can now have up to 7 robots at once (at 100 kills).
  • Debris no longer stays around forever
  • Vortex uses 20% less energy
  • Robots get slightly less stunned at higher difficulties
  • Changed build number

Here are the playable build links again:

http://media.revivalprod.com/OverloadPlayableTeaser32bit.zip

If you have the game on Steam, get the latest update (if you don't have auto-updating enabled).  If you're not having issues with the current build or don't need more robots in Challenge Mode, there's no real need to get the new one.

Localization

Of course, we would like to localize (translate) Overload for every language in the world, but that's not practical. However, in order to recognize the support of our backers, for every language that has 25 or more backers, we will localize text/UI/etc (everything except voice). Represent your country and language -- support Overload!

We can only see the pledge totals (until we fund!) for the ten highest ranking countries, so those are the only countries we can confirm localization for. Those countries are:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • German
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Netherlands
  • Sweden
  • Denmark
  • New Zealand
  • France

Want to see your country in that list? Please get your friends to pledge. And when anyone pledges for a country not in the top ten, please say so in a comment so everyone will know.

Russia -- We know you're not far away!

Note: For languages that are the most common language in several countries, we will combine the total.

Thanks again to everyone for their awesome support!

The Overload Playable Teaser Now Available To Everyone!
about 8 years ago – Mon, Mar 07, 2016 at 10:13:42 PM

Backers already have access to the Overload Playable Teaser, and now is the time to make it available to everyone.  Here are the links for the 64-bit (what you most likely want) and the 32-bit versions for PC:

http://media.revivalprod.com/OverloadPlayableTeaser64bit.zip

http://media.revivalprod.com/OverloadPlayableTeaser32bit.zip

This version is Windows only; our apologies to our Linux and Mac (and PS4 and XB1) backers. To play, just unzip the file and double-click on "OverloadPlayableTeaser.exe".

We've put his demo together in a hurry, and though we've done as much as we can to make it perfect, it still has some rough edges. And of course we're still very early in development -- we're showing off a few sample levels and some cool weapons and robots, but there's lots and lots more to come.

Please, share this with everyone! We want as many people as possible to get hands-on experience with Overload. We are proud of this project and feel the teaser shows the potential of where Overload will go with the right support.

We're also hoping you'll help spread the word about Overload and the demo by posting screenshots, GIFs,and videos (to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, & everywhere else) and using the hashtag #playoverload and our Twitter handle @PlayOverload.

After you play the teaser, let us know what feedback you have. You can email us at [email protected] or join the discussion on Forums.
