A Release Date and A Delay

Today is a big day for Overload! We have some good news and some not-so-good news. 

The good news is that Overload will launch on PC (Windows, Mac, Linux) on May 31 on Steam and GOG.com with full multiplayer support. 

The not-so-good news: We are sorry to say that the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions are being delayed by a couple more months. 

We have a small team, and launching on three platforms, particularly with multiplayer, turned out to be more difficult than we expected. The console versions are nearly feature equivalent to the PC version, but there remain some issues for us to address, particularly with multiplayer support. We underestimated the time to integrate and test multiplayer, so we’ve had to delay the console versions to allow us to focus on testing and finalizing it. We realize this delay is disappointing for console backers, but we believe this will result in the best Overload experience, and will ensure that the console versions aren’t rushed through testing. We are sorry about the repeated delays, and really appreciate your patience and support. 

One thing everyone can celebrate together: Today also marks the start of Overload’s press push leading up to launch, and we’ve got a brand-new action-packed trailer to celebrate. Check it out:

Our PR push is not limited to the press release and trailer. We have a great group of streamers who will be playing Overload over the next couple weeks. We’ll announce those as the time nears. We’ll also begin streaming from our office each Tuesday and Saturday at 2:00 PM CT, with our first broadcast on April 24th. If you stop by our Twitch channel, you’ll be able to check out us playing Overload, and in future streams you may even catch a glimpse of the first five levels with story elements included. 

In addition to Twitch, another great way to stay in touch with Revival and find out what’s going on with Overload is to join our Discord channel. You can also catch up on all our videos on our YouTube channel

We even updated the playable teaser. With many people going there to see how Overload looks and plays on their system, we didn’t want something a year old. You can get it off Steam or download from our site

We will begin expanding our multiplayer testing over the next few weeks, so beta backers should keep an eye out for an email about that. We hope to have a multiplayer beta test the week of April 30. This is an exciting time for Overload, and we can’t wait for you guys to play the whole game.

Final Early Access Update Before Launch

We are pleased to announce the availability of Early Access drop #9, build 117 on Steam. This is our last planned drop before the release of the complete game!  

There are a lot of exciting changes.  We have a new campaign level, Titan Workshop, to try out.  This will be level 7 in Overload. We also have partial localization in French, Russian, Spanish and German, combo scoring in Challenge Mode, and a new difficulty level!  There are a lot of adjustments and you can find the full list here.

Release Dates and Multiplayer Peek

We've got two big things for you today: the first Overload Multiplayer Trailer, and the official announcement of our release plans.

Multiplayer

We've been working on multiplayer for a while now thanks to a new addition to the team, and we're excited to show you some PvP action!

We've still got a ways to go, but the core functionality is in and it's a blast to play.

Release Schedule

We have decided on a concurrent release of the single-player and multiplayer versions across all platforms.  This will mean a slight delay for the SP version, but we believe it's the best thing to do for Overload.  We came to this decision because it's extremely difficult to create awareness for multiple launches.  By releasing single and multiplayer at the same time, we should appeal to a larger audience and attract more players.

Our plan is:

  • One more Early Access release (Version 0.9) sometime in February.  This will include one more single-player level, localization, and nearly-final game balancing, bug fixes and optimization.
  • Starting in April, we expect to make the the multiplayer version available to Beta backers for testing.
  • Final release in May/June for PC (Windows, Linux, Mac), Playstation 4, and Xbox One.

Unexpected delays are always possible, but we feel good about this schedule and think it will help the game.  We're excited to finish Overload and get it out to you.

Rewards

We need all backer content for In-game Picture and Be A Survivor as soon as possible. We emailed those backers individually with details and a photo release to sign. If you did not receive an email or you have the content ready, please email [email protected].

Current Early Access Release

We just released Early Access drop 8.5 (version 0.8 Build 104). Although there’s not new content, there are big improvements in performance, polish, and balancing. Check it out and let us know what you think here, on the Steam forums, or at PlayOverload.

Where are we?

We've been working hard on Overload and the end is in sight!  We have all levels and weapons in, just need to finish a couple bosses to have the enemies finished.  Now, most of our focus has moved to polish, optimization and bugs.  We added a small, but mighty, QA department to insure Overload is the best it can be. The office is busy!  We are also looking down the road at final release and getting out those rewards.

Release and Rewards

We expect to finish in Spring 2018 for a simultaneous release on PC, XBox One and PS4.  Many of the physical Kickstarter rewards are dependent on the completed game, so we won't be able to send them out until after release.  Please check your BackerKit account to confirm the email and mailing address are correct and update as needed.  This is how you will receive all digital rewards and does not update when you change your email on Kickstarter.  While looking at your account, check what you listed for credits name.  If you would like to change this, please email [email protected] for help.

For in-game rewards (including picture in-game, being a survivor, and creating a secret area), you should have received an email asking for the content.  If you have not, please email [email protected].  Images should be a headshot in good lighting with decent resolution (think ID photo).  We will also need a signed release with any image, which is available on your BackerKit account under Digital Downloads.  Since we are getting to the end of things, we need the content sooner than later.

Optimization, Polish and Bugs

With content nearly complete, optimization is getting a lot more attention.  Getting Overload to run as smoothly as possible helps all the platforms.  This requires searching through code, asking why did we do that?!, and adding in much more efficient language.  Then, the most important step, retesting to make sure we didn't break everything with our change.  Which is why...

We are happy to announce the addition of a QA department at Revival! Please welcome Ben Ammer, Chelsea Chapman, Edward Vollenweider, James Cardoni and Scott Fischer; say hello if you see them around the forums. They are invaluable in making the game run well and finding our mistakes. Plus, all of their equipment keeps the office nice and toasty, just in time for winter.
