BackerKit Survey Lockdown
over 7 years ago – Mon, Aug 15, 2016 at 06:37:15 PM

Just a quick reminder regarding your BackerKit Surveys.  We will lockdown all accounts tomorrow morning.  This will make all survey answers and rewards selections final, and all credit cards will be charged for additional pledges made in BackerKit (note: this is only if you decided to add something to your original Kickstarter Pledge through the survey).  Shipping information can still be updated.

If you have any changes to your survey or rewards selection, today is the day to make them!  After today, you can still upgrade pledges, but you will need to contact us directly to help with that.

Login to surveys on Backerkit, and please contact us if you have any questions!

Backer Demo Coming and See Us at PAX West
almost 8 years ago – Sun, Jul 31, 2016 at 12:51:48 AM

Summer Backer Demo

Get your hands on Overload!  We have completed and released a new demo available to everyone who pledged $90 and above.  You should have received an email from us with a Steam key and a link to the DRM-free version; if you haven't, email us at [email protected] and let us know.  We also have a private forum for discussing the new demo; you should be added automatically if you qualify for the demo.  If you can't access it, let us know.

The new demo features two new bots, more weapons, a new single-player level, a new  challenge level, an automap, and new music from Dan Wentz and Allister Brimble.

Here's a video of us working on it:

You can easily upgrade your pledge to the $90 tier by going through our BackerKit site.  BackerKit accounts will be locked down August 15, 2016 and credit cards charged for any additional pledge amounts.  After this date, you will be able to change shipping information, but any changes to rewards will be more difficult.

For a different inside look at Overload, Luke wrote about some of the groundwork he did over the summer. Learn more about the weapons upgrade system here.

PAX West

We are happy to announce, we are showing at PAX West, Spetember 2-5th, 2016!  We can't wait to see everyone there and show off Overload.  Come to Seattle and say hello to the team!

Update: July Demo & System Shock Kickstarter
almost 8 years ago – Tue, Jun 28, 2016 at 10:06:14 PM

Before we get to the Overload news, we want to let everyone know about an exciting new Kickstarter campaign for a System Shock reboot.  Night Dive Studios is doing an all-new version of the well-loved game, keeping the classic gameplay but adding a modern look and feel.  (Sounds like Overload!)  We're super-excited to see it coming back.

System Shock was originally made by our friends at Looking Glass Technologies, and it was started back when Matt Toschlog and Mike Kulas were still working there -- if fact, there may be a little of our code in the game.  Looking Glass was a cauldron of creativity, and System Shock is a perfect example of the innovation that made the studio famous.  Check out the Kickstarter page here.

In Overload news, we're cranking hard on getting final versions of robot behavior, weapon effects, and new sounds.  And we're ramping up our level design and art production -- Chris and Victor are producing some awesome looking textures.

Check out our just-released second Q&A video, with members of the development team answering questions submitted by our fans.  It's full of interesting information about what we're working on now and what's coming up.

We're shooting for an end-of-July release for our next demo, available to backers at $90 and above.  We'll have new levels, new robots, new weapons, and other goodies.  If you want to get the demo, it's not too late to upgrade your pledge (or contribute for the first time) -- just head on over to our BackerKit page.

Shortly after the demo is released we'll be locking down our surveys, so make sure you're happy with your current selections.  New backers will still be able to contribute, but current supporters will be locked into their selections. (You'll still be able to update your shipping address at any time, so don't worry about that.)

Thanks, everyone, for your continued support of Overload.  We're excited about how the game is coming along and can't wait to share more with you!

June Update
almost 8 years ago – Mon, Jun 13, 2016 at 10:33:13 PM

Hello everyone!

Development

We've been spending a lot of time lately prototyping different facets of the game -- robots, weapons, items, upgrades, and other level elements.  Our objective is to get all the basic building blocks in place so we can see how they interact, and we can start working on levels built around specific robots and weapons.  When we get each item to the place where we're mostly happy with its functionality, we can start working on final models, textures, and visuals and sound effects.

We're also working on coming up with ideas for the visuals.  For example, the image below shows 50 non-boss enemy ideas of various shapes, sizes, and themes intended to spur ideas. It’s not the prettiest picture, but it's a great first step and gives us a chance to identify concepts we really like and to rule out misfit ideas (no offense to misfits).  And often the visual concepts will inspire ideas for weapons, AI, or environments.

One result of the recent prototypes will be our choices for what features and content to include in the summer demo.  This demo, for those at the $90 tier and above, is targeted at a late July release.

QA with Mike and Luke

We want to make sure we pass along information you are genuinely interested in. But being in the middle of a project can make it difficult for us to tell what is exciting to others (doesn’t everyone love getting rid of warnings?). Luckily for us, you guys are awesome and have sent in great questions. A couple weeks ago, Mike and Luke sat down to answer some of them in the video below. We had fun with the topics and definitely plan to do this again, so send us your questions!  Tweet, Facebook, join the Forums, spam Cathy at [email protected]!  From the live stream, you know we don't do well making up topics on our own.

BackerKit Surveys

Just a friendly reminder to fill out the BackerKit Survey,  We hope to send out some of the rewards this summer, with the website credits and desktop images happening first.  We can't send you things unless we have the correct information; so please fill out the survey!

Thanks for the support!
